Ever think that certain couples in the movies play out an astrological dynamic?
I tend to think that Hugh Grant is a Libra (he's not, but I totally forget this, Venus is there thoug) because he's got the charm up the ass AND tends to play very indecisive characters. I'm watching Two Weeks Notice right now and I'm thinking that he and Sandra Bullock have this Libra-Aries dynamic because he's always wanting her to make the decisions and she's the one with the drive. She's not one IRL either (Aries midheaven though), but the character comes off like that.
Likewise, Moonstruck always seems to me to be a Taurus (Cher, who is one) and Scorpio (Nicolas Cage, no Scorp at all) movie because she's trying to be practical and stubborn and he's uh...acting all stormcloudy and passionate.
So even though YOU may be a super-cautious & canny Capricorn, if you’ve got Leo lurking on the cusp of your 2nd – LOL. You will LIKE the sensation of having “proper” champagne in your fridge and you do not give a shit about what some wine wanker says about how some shit-house cheap sparkling wine is superior. No-no-no. You feel soothed by the registered orange hue of the Veuve label. Soothed.
Pisces on the cusp of the 2nd? You are so prone to giving stuff away. Things come to you when you need them as if by osmosis. Things go with ease. You’re like a walking installation of The Secret. Scorpio/Cancer on the cusp of the 2nd? You’re likely to be one of those peeps who just have the investment knack. You leapt in at the start of the tech boom and nipped out again quick smart. You can turn $5 into $500 and to you it’s as sensual and pleasurable as growing something in the garden.
But it’s not just the signs on the cusp of the 2nd. It’s also what’s in there! The classic challenged-by-money placement is our ye olde friend Saturn. Yet remember that your Saturn area gets buffed and buffed via loads of work and angsting till finally it becomes your shiniest area? Saturn in the 2nd house gets clobbered in early youth by seeming to lose money, be ripped off, just feeling always stuggling but by Jove, when this lot get self-reliant, they are a force. Healthy, wealthy & wise indeed.
Venus & Jupiter there – the benefics of trad astro – bless the person with the ability to sort of drum it up from nowhere, walk out the door and get offered the gig they need & even be fairly fortunate in just finding the stuff. Venus/Jupiter in the 2nd trots into garage sales & comes out clutching the actual valuable antique. Or gets a massive crush on some artist at uni who gives her his/her etchings & voila, they’re worth heaps at a later date.
Think also that you can make money via following the attributes of whatever sign/planet is plonked there. And don’t worry if no planet there – it just means it’s not that important to you. Uranus in 2nd; money off the net, via inventions & television. Neptune; film, acting, science fantasy. You could even have the gift of literally dreaming up profitable ideas. Pluto is like mogul-land. People who literally go from having zilch to being officially selfmade millionaires often have Pluto (or Scorp) in the 2nd."
Huh, finally a NICE interpretation of Neptune in 2nd that isn't "your money drifts away and you can't figure out Quicken for anything on earth."
Another related link, but with a highly different take....
In astrology, this is 2nd house territory, which is related to Taurus and to Leo. It’s possible to get a fairly clear understanding of a person’s concept and experience of self-esteem by a careful reading of the 2nd house. Pretty much everything shows up there, though it’s often necessary to look at the planet that rules the 2nd house (which will usually be placed in another house) and see what it’s doing. The 2nd house is how a person feels about him or herself. It’s also about one’s personal assets, such as money and other valuables. Most of us have to work to build our assets, which suggests that self-esteem is not something that we’re born with or that we inherit, but rather something that we earn.
Well, I guess I do have me some earning potential (grand trine in 2nd/6th/10th, Neptune in 2nd, Jupiter in 8th, ruler of 2nd in 8th). Watch me do the money dance.
"For the last several months, every time I sit down to write this column I am perplexed about what to write. I have the format down: Identify the themes, describe how they play out, and then offer up practical advice about how to handle the news. Or, as a good friend once said, "Ralfee's column: First paragraph — life sucks; second paragraph, life sucks; and so forth until the end, which reads, 'Here's what you can do about it. And be nice.'
Okay, on to the weekly horoscopes...
TAURUS External uncertainty could trigger internal angst, especially if you're looking for guarantees about your future. Rather than worry, stay present. If you show up in integrity, the future will take care of itself.
SCORPIO You can call your current situation a crisis of faith or you can consider it an opportunity to shift out of old mental patterns and into a new mindset. This is a no-brainer: Give up what doesn't work.
Also, this week's Psychic Dream:
TAURUS
If you get your ass in gear and delve into your rough inner currents, you will not only be rewarded with a more crystalline sense of self, but also the foundation for taking your relationships to the next level. Know who you are so you don't misrepresent yourself, then be clear so you don't have to backtrack.
SCORPIO
It's anxiety versus TLC in Scorpio-Ville, and my money is on the tender lovin' care. Your knee-jerk reactions to the unknown are in high gear this week, and you need to nurture them into submission. Instead of bullying yourself when the going gets rough, shower kindness and patience on your fraidy parts. It'll help.
"Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. A square in your astrological chart reflects this tendency to oppose yourself, and to sometimes oppose your best interests. Yet within a square there is more free will than in an opposition aspect. But still we ask ourselves: why would I sabotage myself or why am I often of two minds on a subject? Why do I tear myself up over decisions because a part of me thinks or feels one way, and a part of me thinks or feels another way?
A square is an internal opposition. Although it’s slightly easier than an opposition aspect because it originates from within, rather than outside, it’s still a hard one. Psychologists would refer to this as a complex—an internal wound that isn’t rational, but reflects an internal division."
Venus square Saturn and Jupiter. Not to mention her 4th/10th house nodes. I tend to think the 4th/10th/Cancer/Capricorn nodal connection is the worst of the bunch, actually (yes, even worse than mine and I'm biased :P). Home vs. family and being forced to switch from one orientation to the other to me seems like a real bitch.
I am also smirking at the swamp remark for the South Node. That's...a bit much.
Hee. Everyone freaks at retrograde periods, but since I have like half my planets retrograde/stationary, I am all "who cares, that Mercury shit never happens to me, wheeeeeeeeeeeeee."
Now here comes Uranus retrograde starting tomorrow and for the rest of the year (great, we needed MORE crazy out there, thanks, universe) everyone gets to shit more bricks. I started to wonder about this, like "OMG IS URANUS GOING TO GET ME FIRED?" (answer: probably not till it hits my sixth house, so I got a while), then remembered, "Oh, hey, that's also retrograde in my natal. Never mind! Same level of natural-born crazy here!)
From astrology.com e-mail:
"Uranus is the oddball of the solar system. For starters, it rolls along its side -- on its equator -- instead of spinning upright in its orbit the way planets typically do. Uranus is also in retrograde for more than half of the year. This means it is only direct for two weeks, and is retrograde for about five months out of every Earth year."
So...Uranus is wonky A MAJORITY OF THE TIME, PEOPLE. It's always crazy. Chillax.
"Astrologically, Uranus liberates you from the shackles of convention and applies pressure to change whatever is stagnant in your life. Uranus rules electromagnetic energy and is like a lightning storm that creates chaos as it cleans the air, revealing a fresh new world once the storm has cleared.
But when Uranus is retrograde, expect the unexpected. Wonderful and startling surprises are very possible. This retrograde may set your wild side free, or it could make a notoriously outgoing person uncharacteristically shy.
To know exactly what to expect, review the placement of Uranus in your birth chart. If Uranus is direct in a chart, intuitive and inventive impulses flow on a regular basis. However, when Uranus is retrograde in a birth chart, rebellious urges tend to bottle up and then burst forth, seemingly out of nowhere. A retrograde period seems to reawaken freedom urges within individuals, causing them to suddenly and unconsciously rebel against any ruts or confinement in life. Is Uranus retrograde in your birth chart? Should you be on guard against your own rebellious tendencies in the following months to come?"
I am thinking about doing a NaNoWriMo month in July. I wonder what that counts as?
Taurus: Mars has entered your birth sign, which is putting some fire in your belly. I trust you will give that famous Taurean complacency a run for its money. I know a lot of people born under your sign, and I do mean know and love. They all admit the same thing: it’s difficult to make changes. The comfort zone can feel like climbing out of a canyon. On the most basic level, Taurus grounds stability for the whole astrological system. Yet deep beneath the crust of the Earth is a tectonic power that you know you have, but rarely tap into. That strength would enable you to make vast changes as if this were no big deal at all.
Der, what?
What I believe entices you to keep things stable, is less about fear of the future and more about an attachment to the past. But fear plays a role you need to address. On and off for the past several months, you’ve had a tour of what tends to freak you out. There’s another aspect to fear, however, which is feeling the emotion but losing touch with what creates it. Here is the key to your astrology this month: use fear as a source of energy. Go right into it and confront it directly; or let it propel you to make the decisions that you need to make. If fear is not an issue for you per se, then make a list of your perceived limits and, one by one, take them out.
True dat.Scorpio: You must be emotionally grounded to be free; to be emotionally grounded you need to either feel like you belong somewhere, or be consciously, firmly devoted to it not mattering whether you do or don’t. Ultimately, most environmental issues relate to some internal factor. The planets are conspiring to help you work out what that factor is, and to align you with a kind of therapy process to get you to where you want to be. You seem to be edging ever-closer to actually anchoring yourself in a measure of creative freedom — closer, but (so far) never quite getting there.
Please hurry up on that.
My point is that you most certainly will, and you will sooner than you think.
But the territory you are covering now is essential to making sure you are actually stable enough to be freer than you are today. Part of that freedom involves your emotional world. While nobody would doubt that you are an emotional person, the theme of the planets is how you structure your emotions, and the extent to which you try to hold a consistent pattern. To the extent that any lingering old patterns remain, you are now being keyed into the existence of another kind of strength; one that does not require control so much as it requires awareness. This includes awareness of where you will not let your feelings go, and an invitation to enter precisely that space.
