Solar returns in particular (mine)
So I decided to get a solar return chart done at Cafe Astrology- the Merriman version with predictions attached. I figured "going to a pro" might be better than how my own analysis came out.
And man, that thing scared me. Now, I'm not all OMG TWELFTH HOUSE NOOOOOOOOOOO the way a lot of other people are- my chart ruler's in the 12th and it makes me interested in probing around in psychology and paranormal stuff and that's it. I still don't think I'm going to prison, thanks. Heck, the one guy I know who did go to prison and I have his chart doesn't have anything in there. (This fellow's mom let me listen to the astrologer CD she got made for him and the lady predicted prison for him due to his addictions...I still want to know what she saw that indicated it to her.) I tend to think of it more like "hey, here's fun things to probe."
But the sheer number of times the report said, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE I'M SERIOUS GO GO GO DO NOT BE HOME AT RETURN TIME NOOOOOOOO kind of pissed me off. My SR time was at 7:30 a.m., for fuck's sake, where was I going to go when I had to work till late last night? And even had I fled to the Bay Area (where I fly out of later), that still isn't far enough away to count. Sheesh.
So, anyway, the analysis:
Cadent Houses: Your solar return chart shows a majority of planets in the cadent
houses. This suggests a year of flux as far as your affairs in the world are concerned.
NO surprise there, I guess.
Well, yes, that was my plan. Y'know, to come up with a plan.
This is moreso the case if you also have Mutable signs on any angles in this chart. It may also
indicate a year of mental activity and preparation for something in your future (beyond
the current year). You may end up viewing this as a year of "training," apprenticeship, or
some sort of preparation for another phase soon to appear in your life.
I DID want to work on special mental projects, thank you.
Many of your plans will likely change, and you might not feel so much in control as usual, but if you
are adaptable (and conditions will be such that this is advised), then many favorable
alternatives to your current approach to life will arise. If, on the other hand, you are not
adaptable, then this situation generally indicates a year of irritation and frustration, for all
significant affairs which you enter into seem to be with others who are uncooperative, or
with unstable situations over which the you have little control. Unless you wish to work
on special mental projects, a majority of planets posited in the solar return cadent houses
is not the most favorable condition.
I dunno, eleventh and tenth are pretty emphasised in this one too.
All cadent houses are the twelfth house of the angular
house which follows. Hence an overriding majority of planets here can suggest the
undoing of your former and current efforts (shown by angular houses).
Not happening.
With this set-up
(unless there is some sort of balance shown elsewhere, or else a writing project is
contemplated), you might seriously consider traveling elsewhere for your solar return
event, somewhere that will move the majority of planets out of the cadent houses, and
perhaps into angular houses (i.e. eastward).
I was going to anyway.
It is also advisable to make
time available for meditation or daily contemplation during this year if you decide to
keep this chart, i.e. not travel elsewhere for your birthday.
And all of that sounds good to me.
At best, the majority of planets in your cadent houses favors writing, teaching, and
traveling ventures. It could indicate favorable legal matters, depending upon which
planets are in or rule your ninth house. It may also indicate many experiences of
inspiration, and even moments of a joyful outpouring of bliss (compassion) for others. It
could be a time of great spiritual awareness.
That...would be typical me, though.
At worst, it suggests you have a great desire
for change, but no real change is effected. It is thus a potentially restless period in which
your direction in life is not very clear. It may also correlate to illness, possibly induced
by psychological stress. You are advised to watch your diet carefully, and stay with an
exercise program.
The Sun, at the time of your solar return, falls in the 12th house.
12th house: During this year, you may identify yourself closely with efforts behind
the scene, or out of the public's eye. The year favors charity and volunteer work. It may
also favor rest, relaxation and seclusion, as it may signify a withdrawing phase of your
life. It may be beneficial for work with institutions, or even psychic development and
meditative pursuits. It favors research and doing activities by oneself, and out of the
limelight.
However you may experience feelings of vague apprehension and self-doubt. If
planets herein are not favorable by aspect and you fail to utilize proper care, then it may
mean hospitalization, imprisonment or confinement of some kind. This is not the most
desirable house to find a majority of solar return planets, or the Sun, unless the favorable
goals listed above are of great value to you at the moment.
Well, the psychic and meditative stuff, research, and activities alone are all good by me.
Natal Moon on the 7th house cusp:
This denotes where many changes -- and hence, events -- may occur for you during
this year. This is an area where you may have great needs, especially emotionally. Your
public image for the year may be effected by circumstances that unfold in this area of
life. It also indicates the areas of life in which you may form significant relationships
(intimate ones) for the year. It can indicate a potential partnership or marriage in that area
of life during the year. It may also indicate an area of life where dependencies upon, or
with, other people may form, and these dependencies may not be healthy for you if a high
degree of trust is not present. Personal qualities exhibited in this area of life are sensitive,
caring, emotional, and perhaps fickle and restless.
Hmmmmm. Not sure. Kind of sounds good, but my mom is a natal moon on 7th cusp person and the needy is annoying. Don't want to act like that.

Natal Mercury on the 12th house cusp:
This denotes an area of life in which correspondence, writings, business deals and
transactions, signing of papers, and areas of current mental or intellectual interests may
lie this year. It describes the areas in life in which you may make deals. New ideas may
be expressed or learned here. In addition, you may be of service to others in this area of
life. It is in these areas that you may be called forth to deal with younger people. In short,
this is where a great deal of your mental energy is spent in the next year, and where
communications skills come in very handy. It presents ample opportunities for learning.
The qualities exhibited in this area of life are intelligence, knowledge, communicative but
perhaps critical skills.
Again, sounds good.
Natal Venus on the 1st house cusp:
Relationships, love matters, romantic interests, compatibility and harmony with
others is highlighted in this area of your life. It shows an area where you may experience
popularity, as well as favorable developments in finances, valuables, and possessions. It
denotes where you may exhibit good taste -- or style -- for the current year. It shows
where you may find compatibility or acquire something of value. It also denotes the areas
in which others are likely to show favor to you. It may be that you find things which are
pleasing to your nature, i.e. a sense of beauty, in this area of life. It may indicate areas
wherein you come across artistic and creative, or meet such types. More significantly it
will show where you can make contacts -- and the types of contacts -- that you may use
later on, either for yourself personally, or to function as a mediator or go-between for
others. The qualities you tend to exhibit in this area of life are graciousness, diplomacy,
sociability, and possible stubbornness, jealousy, and possessiveness.
Hmm. I wish that was on the 10th rather than 4th. I don't give a crap about new stuff at home.
Natal Mars on the 4th house cusp:
These are areas of life where you are likely to initiate new ventures. These are areas
where you may initiate a pioneering spirit and eagerness to try new things, and if
favorably placed and aspected, then success is very possible; if afflicted, then you must
guard against an over-impulsive nature which could lead to failure of pursuits. This is an
area of great motivation and activity -- an arena of "action." It also denotes where you
tend to be competitive, or meet with competition from others. Furthermore, this shows
where you are likely to experience discordance with others, and possibly engage in
quarrels or disputes. It may be wise to utilize great caution and self-control in these areas

Natal Pluto on the 6th house cusp:
This is an area in which you may experience potential greatness and/or may influence
others with considerable power. It is an area in which things, matters, and people may be
eliminated, removed, terminated, or at least transformed. It is an area that may require
many reforms and major changes within your life flow. This is an area that may describe
your relationship to, or position within, groups. It may describe your relationship to other
people's assets and values. Oftentimes, something "dies" here, something is taken from
the life here, or at least threatened with termination or removal in some way. A healing
may be necessary in this area of life during the course of the year in question. The
qualities you tend to exhibit are intensity, deep, profound and powerful, but perhaps
obsessive and coercive, pertaining to this area of life.
Again, wish that was on the other side.
Natal Midhvn. on the 4th house cusp:
This is an area where you may accomplish great tasks. It is a special area wherein lies
a sense of personal destiny and unfoldment during the forthcoming year, an area of great
expectation, where a great degree of professionalism may be both developed and
expressed. It is an area in which you may have to deal with superiors, but if adequately
prepared, rewards may result. There is a sense of challenge, and "work to be done" in this
area.
Okay, I wouldn't mind if that panned out. The computer thing is probably true because my machines are due to all die this year (they all go every 4 years within a few months of each other and my PDA already went this month).
Return Uranus Sextile Ascendant (Orb: 2°30')
Uranus in harmonious aspect to horizon: This is a year of unexpected and pleasant -
even marvelous - surprises. Your charisma and personal magnetism, whether mental or
physical, is extremely high. As such, many new people and new ideas are attracted to
you. It is a year favoring new and exciting romances - a very "hot" year. It is also a year
of many ingenious new ideas. You are incredibly inventive, and able to apply new
thoughts to old problems, thereby coming up with wonderful new solutions. You may
feel very youthful and vigorous. Romantic liaisons with people much younger than
yourself could happen, or at least with people who turn you on to new ways of looking at
things, or even people who you turn on to new ways of looking at things. This year favors
purchase of new computers or software, and a new "you", a new style.
Natal Uranus Square Midheaven (Orb: 8°32')
Uranus in discordant aspect to meridian: There is danger of suddenly losing your
position this year. Circumstances may arise quite suddenly - without if any preparation
on your part - and cause you to shift your focus 180 degrees. These circumstances may be
out of your control - a new boss, a new owner of the company. Or they may be a result of
decisions you made that may have been off the mark. You may feel like taking risks, but
this signature does not favor positive results from taking such risks. Do not go against
company policy, or the law, or outside of your normal "bounds." If in business for
yourself, this may not bode well for taking on new products. It may be better to stay with
the tried and true this year, and not try to be so innovative and progressive. Important
work or family contacts may end this year, quite unexpectedly. You are susceptible to
making quick and not very-well-thought-out decisions, such as quitting work. Better
think twice before acting upon such major decisions. This set up portends some difficult
conditions during the year.

And then there's something like this and I am all, wait, which one what now?
Natal Pluto Trine Midheaven (Orb: 8°30')
Pluto in harmonious aspect to meridian: This year it is possible for you to work with a
large and powerful group of people. You yourself may be given, or find yourself in, a
position of great influence. With this position, you may have the power to change things -
to improve conditions - for the better. The result could be a substantial increase in profits
(in business) or value/net worth (personal). Any research or investigation efforts you are
involved in may turn up a bonanza. This is a year of discoveries, and they prove to be
very valuable to you personally. Perhaps they result in a favorable legal, contractual or
insurance settlement. Or perhaps they just give you the clout or insight you need to
successfully finish projects you have been working on.
Then comes the Legion of Shit...
Two things that stand out in this overall: (a) "good love year!" and (b) "you're gonna get canned." Well, the latter wouldn't surprise me if it happened in 2010. I think I am probably okay for this one but not the next one. Hence my "oh shit, must plan" panic on this blog. As for good love year...well, this being me, I will probably manage to be as usual despite that, somehow. I know that's negative thinking, but I somehow never manage those.
Eighth house planets in discordant aspect to rulers:
This may be a year of financial stress. Moneys owed to you cannot be collected. Or,
you may have loans outstanding which you find hard to repay. In addition, there may be
conflicts between what you really want to do, and the demands and obligations you feel
others make upon you. Be careful of a tendency to blame them for your present status.
You do have a choice, and you are making it. Affairs may end this year, perhaps against
your will. You may be the subject of a power play, so know your enemies (if there are
any), and get them to put all the cards on the table. What you don't want is someone
undermining you without your knowledge. For that matter, someone may be investigating
you or your background without your permission. There may be problems with taxes,
insurance claims, and estate matters. In addition, sexual activities may be unsatisfying, or
lead to problems. Be cautious and discerning now.
Tenth house planets in discordant aspect to rulers:
You are likely experiencing conflicts with regard to your profession. Is this what you
really want to do? Or would you prefer doing something else? The trouble is, it may not
be a favorable time for changing. Conflicts with superiors may arise, and if you are not
careful, this could result in job loss. It may be time to closely examine what you are
doing, and what your real goals in life are. If one does not support the other, it may be
time to start exploring other options that will bring you back into harmony with your own
sense of destiny and purpose in life. To continue in your present path may result in much
frustration, and the feeling that "time is passing me by."
Eleventh house planets in discordant aspect to rulers:
This year you may encounter power plays in groups. These power plays cause you to
examine your motives and reasons for being in the group. Are you there for the personal
glory it may bring, or because you believe in its objectives and goals? Conflicts with
friends may also unfold, and you are encouraged to be sensitive to their needs (or they to
yours). Otherwise you may lose a close friend.
Twelfth house planets in discordant aspect to rulers:
In retrospect, you may look back and wonder if you lost this year. It may have been a
year of much promise, but nothing happened. This is moreso perhaps if planets in the
twelfth house afflict the ruler of the Ascendant. The signatures suggest the possibility of
unfavorable dealings with institutions like jails, prisons, hospitals, and other places of
confinement. You worst enemy may be the fears inside of your own mind. One's dreams
may be very disturbing, and it wise not to engage in over active fantasies and unrealistic,
delusional, thinking
Two more things, (c) you may figure things out, but probably not, (d) well, writing and learning could go well. But otherwise, you suck, I guess. Sheesh.
A final note from the report...
Keeping a Diary of Your Solar Return Experience
The moments of these experiences and these interactions with others during the solar
return day can be progressed into the future of this year. Basically the premise is this:
whatever you experience during the solar return day will symbolically represent the
nature of your experiences during the solar return year. Furthermore, the time of these
experiences - whether external or internal - will relate to a specific period in the year
when that "symbolism" will likely repeat. The formula is the same as used in the
calculation of the solar return Moon. That is, every two hours of time from your solar
return represents one month of time from the date of your solar return. In the same token,
approximately every four minutes of time is the equivalent of one day in the solar return
year.
Therefore it can be very enlightening to carry paper and pen with you on the day of
your solar return. Mark down the time in which things happen during this day. In fact,
you may want to keep a very detailed daily record of what happened as it goes along. It is
also a good idea to plan things during the day which you know will be favorable and
enjoyable, as that will set the tone of a favorable and enjoyable activity later on this year.
To briefly illustrate, let us assume your solar return occurs at 6:00 PM. At 8:00 PM,
the circumstances that you experience (in the external world, or your interior world) will
be symbolic of what is going on in your life about one month after your birthday. If you
went out and had a wonderful dinner with someone you love, then perhaps one month
later you will find your life very wonderful, almost like being out for a wonderful dining
experience.
The daily record should begin six hours before your solar return, and continue 30
hours afterwards. The six hours before are symbolic of the three months leading up to
your birthday. Even these events and circumstances are symbolic of what you have
already gone through, and seeing the symbolism helps put the recent past into
perspective. The six hours following the 24 hours of the birthday are also important.
They refer to the momentum of this year carrying into the next solar return, and your
ability to make the successful transition from one year's issues to the next.
Well, okay, let me write this down:
2:30 a.m. In bed, asleep.
5:15 a.m. Wake up in a panic because I have a lot of stuff to get done today before I leave the house. Which is to say, I want to do a new moon manifestation goal bowl AND make some paper beads with my intentions written within them AND perhaps do some journaling AND recharge a bracelet of mine. But 5:15 is still too early to start that shit. I go online and catch up on Savage Love instead.
6:15 a.m. Uh, maybe I should get moving now.
6:15-7 a.m.: Write down my goals, write them down in journals, write them in the paper beads (pre-cut), roll them up, glue beads together, seal them with nail polish, grab some hemp to string them on... I don't get to the recharging.
7-7:35 a.m.: Get dressed, do the bathroom thing, repack my stuff a little, shut down the computer. Exact solar return happens.
7:38-7:45 a.m. Go wait at bus stop. Notice it is ironically chilly (it was hot two days ago). Decide that maybe I should wear real boots for the next 3 days rather than sandals, run in and grab some shoes and socks. Return just in time to catch bus, huzzah.
8 a.m.-noon: sit around at work, listen to people bitch about how the building smells, listen to other people having a meeting, find a bug in the system that they already knew about, look up horoscopes, listen to podcasts, work on work stuff in between all of the above due to ADD brain-hopping.
Noon-1: at this point, probably go spin some yarn or something because nobody could go to lunch with me. Sigh.
I am guessing the day will go like this (I'll update it when I return):
1-2: work.
2 p.m. Leave work.
2:10 p.m. Catch bus to Amtrak.
2:15 p.m. Get to Amtrak, get pre-purchased ticket without difficulty, with five minutes to spare before the train shows up.
2:20-3:35: Have pleasant ride on train, where I do more journaling, maybe charge my bracelet, knit, read.
3:35-5-ish p.m. Ride BART. Have pleasant ride where all on BART are sane and calm. (Snerk.)
5-ish p.m. Pick up Mom, go to airport.
5:30 p.m. Arrive at airport. Get tickets and go through security without difficulty.
7:30-8:30ish p.m. Fly on plane. Have calm and pleasant flight.
8:30-9:30ish p.m. Get to eat somehow, get to hotel somehow,
11ish p.m. Eventually go to sleep.
7ish a.m. Wake up, get dressed, go Disneyland!
8-12:30 on the 25th: Have fun at Disney!
Let's hope my list matches reality :)
