Second house and Jupiter

Jupiter is the planet of wealth. You can't accurately assess someone's wealth potential without determining this planet's strength. That said, I've long puzzled over the following observation: People I've known with the greatest money difficulties often have Jupiter in or ruling the 2nd--while the more successful ones often have a 2nd house Saturn. This runs counter to conventional wisdom, which says Jupiter brings good fortune and Saturn brings bad luck.
Maybe this is because we no longer live in the traditional world—where the family fortune spelled one's own financial fate, where jumping class lines was difficult, where Saturn described the limits of a life, rather than the efforts to overcome them. Jupiter brings an expectation of privilege--although most I've known with Jupiter in or ruling the 2nd come from middle class lives. Even so, their sense of entitlement is strong. No matter the actual balance in their bank account, about their future, they tend to feel secure. “Something will come,” they say. And something usually does. John, for example, always had a roof over his head and a good meal, also money for shoes, his masseuse and his dental bill, despite going years without any income.

Anyway, look to the sign on the cusp of the 2nd house. This is FUN. That sign is how you are with $$$.
So even though YOU may be a super-cautious & canny Capricorn, if you’ve got Leo lurking on the cusp of your 2nd – LOL. You will LIKE the sensation of having “proper” champagne in your fridge and you do not give a shit about what some wine wanker says about how some shit-house cheap sparkling wine is superior. No-no-no. You feel soothed by the registered orange hue of the Veuve label. Soothed.

Pisces on the cusp of the 2nd? You are so prone to giving stuff away. Things come to you when you need them as if by osmosis. Things go with ease. You’re like a walking installation of The Secret. Scorpio/Cancer on the cusp of the 2nd? You’re likely to be one of those peeps who just have the investment knack. You leapt in at the start of the tech boom and nipped out again quick smart. You can turn $5 into $500 and to you it’s as sensual and pleasurable as growing something in the garden.

But it’s not just the signs on the cusp of the 2nd. It’s also what’s in there! The classic challenged-by-money placement is our ye olde friend Saturn. Yet remember that your Saturn area gets buffed and buffed via loads of work and angsting till finally it becomes your shiniest area? Saturn in the 2nd house gets clobbered in early youth by seeming to lose money, be ripped off, just feeling always stuggling but by Jove, when this lot get self-reliant, they are a force. Healthy, wealthy & wise indeed.

Venus & Jupiter there – the benefics of trad astro – bless the person with the ability to sort of drum it up from nowhere, walk out the door and get offered the gig they need & even be fairly fortunate in just finding the stuff. Venus/Jupiter in the 2nd trots into garage sales & comes out clutching the actual valuable antique. Or gets a massive crush on some artist at uni who gives her his/her etchings & voila, they’re worth heaps at a later date.

Think also that you can make money via following the attributes of whatever sign/planet is plonked there. And don’t worry if no planet there – it just means it’s not that important to you. Uranus in 2nd; money off the net, via inventions & television. Neptune; film, acting, science fantasy. You could even have the gift of literally dreaming up profitable ideas. Pluto is like mogul-land. People who literally go from having zilch to being officially selfmade millionaires often have Pluto (or Scorp) in the 2nd."

Huh, finally a NICE interpretation of Neptune in 2nd that isn't "your money drifts away and you can't figure out Quicken for anything on earth."

In astrology, this is 2nd house territory, which is related to Taurus and to Leo. It’s possible to get a fairly clear understanding of a person’s concept and experience of self-esteem by a careful reading of the 2nd house. Pretty much everything shows up there, though it’s often necessary to look at the planet that rules the 2nd house (which will usually be placed in another house) and see what it’s doing. The 2nd house is how a person feels about him or herself. It’s also about one’s personal assets, such as money and other valuables. Most of us have to work to build our assets, which suggests that self-esteem is not something that we’re born with or that we inherit, but rather something that we earn.

Well, I guess I do have me some earning potential (grand trine in 2nd/6th/10th, Neptune in 2nd, Jupiter in 8th, ruler of 2nd in 8th). Watch me do the money dance.

House 1 placements:

A person with the Moon in House I has known considerable personal recognition in previous lives, the memory of which can come through into the current incarnation as a strong desire for renown. That explains a lot... (My moon is right on the cusp of house 1-2) I always wondered where that came from.

House 10 placements:

Saturn in the 10th House is the planet of Karma in its Own House. Unsurprisingly its effect on a person’s life is very pronounced. The sign and position of the Moon will shed light on why there should be such a need to have to struggle against an undertow which threatens to pull down all-a-person builds in his life, and which is resisted only by constant effort, self-discipline and sound judgment. Saturn in the 10th House, as the lives of Hitler and Napoleon demonstrate, does not rule out eminence and acclaim but it means that a person will face the consequences of all he has put into motion during his lifetime.

A person with Saturn in H10 frequently starts life with obstacles blocking his way, including a father with a negative and critical attitude to the child or the marked absence of a father figure during the formative years. For whatever he brings into being he will be held directly responsible.

I keep getting stuff about manifestation in my card readings in the last few months. I don't know what to make of it. I'm very nervous about trying it... (see below)

A person with this placement of Pluto frequently knows much cruelty and abuse in childhood, be it of a physical, emotional or mental kind, and the perpetrators are usually the parents or guardians who have power over the child by virtue of their custodial role. From them the child has little opportunity to escape at the physical level and in order to get away he forces open a shutter in the mind which gives him access to enormous psychic power.

Okay, I dunno about that "forces a shutter open in the mind" and "enormous" thing, but... the rest of it, yeah.

It is the law of the 12th House that for what is denied at the physical level is compensated at the immaterial.

The power of a person with Pluto in H12 is most readily evidenced by their often unconscious use of what has become known in New Age circles as Creative Visualisation: if he can hold an image or picture an outcome and give it his emotional energy he can bring it into being.

Too bad I suck at mental pictures. I am attempting collage in order to get around this.

When used consciously, Pluto in H12 gives a person great charisma and the ability to make others into the agents of the outworking of his will. The responsibilities of this are enormous and the karma incurred through the use of the power conferred by Pluto in H12 is unlikely to be burned off in the course of a single lifetime. A person with this placement, if he is to work consciously with his powers, needs to be able to recognise and resist the voice of his desire nature.
